Last Thursday, April 30th, 2009, FCO’s Executive Director Jaime Bolaños Cacho Guzmán gave a donation in the name of the Oaxaca Community Foundation to four feature projects, which implement alternatives in overcoming the challenges of a changing economy. The longest running group, MujeresArtesenas de San José del Progreso S. de R. L. MI ART, which has recieved support from the foundation for over 7 years, will utilize the funds to improve the design and production of their hand embroidered blouses.

Another all women’s group, Taller CosturaElice will adopt the support from the foundation to improve the quality of their sewing, by purchasing industrial sewing machines, with which they will make physical education uniforms, among other products. The group MujeresIndígenas: Tejedoras de vidas y sueños A.C. will use their funds to plant coyuche Mexican cotton, which will th en be employed to produce traditional textiles. Lastly, an artisan cooperative with a store in downtown Oaxaca, TradiciónesMagia y Color, buys their products directly from the artisan, without the use of an intermediary.
The financial support given will stimulate local economies
The support will be utilized by purchasing furniture to exhibit the store’s products. The Oaxaca Community Foundation monitors and assists the progress of all the organizations it supports.
